Rhinoplasty Procedure
The operation of rhinoplasty to reshape the external nose is widely acknowledged among facial plastic surgeons as being the most difficult operation to perform in this area. The size and shape of the nose has a very significant impact upon facial appearance and balance and a patient's age, gender and ethnicity need to be considered when making a decision to alter nasal appearance.
There are a multitude of surgical techniques that can be employed to achieve a desirable aesthetic outcome and the surgeon must be fully aware of these and familiar with their application. In addition the surgeon must be very mindful of the fact that nasal function is also of vital importance and nasal dynamics can certainly be altered by any external nasal operation.
The surgeon must take into account the long-term effects of any operation on the nose such that the patient does not experience an aesthetic or functional deterioration in their nose in the years and decades following the surgery. It is therefore very important that patients choose a surgeon who has had extensive training in both aesthetic and functional nasal surgery.
Doctor Andrew Bridger is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in the subspecialty area of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery) having trained in the New South Wales programme and gaining his Fellowship in 1998. Only Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeons have had comprehensive training in both internal and external nasal surgery.
He is a fully trained facial plastic surgeon and in addition to his Australian qualification is also fully certified since 2001 by the prestigious American Board of Otolaryngology including certification in facial plastic surgery. He is one of only a very few Australian ENT surgeons to hold this additional qualification.
Doctor Bridger has undertaken post-fellowship training in Australia, Canada and the United States in facial plastic surgery in world renowned institutions and has a subspecialty interest in rhinoplasty surgery.
He has published and lectured both nationally and internationally. He has extensive experience in both functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty surgery and with both closed and open approaches to this type of operation.
